About the group
Sarah's Runners was founded over 9 years ago with humble beginnings as a small group of friends. It has now grown to be the biggest and most well known beginner group in Tunbridge Wells with over 350 members. The success of the group in 2012 won Sarah the award of England Athletics 'Group Leader of the Year' for the South East and the Courier Newspaper Group Unsung Hero award.
We are very proud of our thriving group and the success of our runners. Our aim always remains the same - to encourage beginners to take up running, have fun and enjoy it. Our goal is to build your confidence and fitness slowly and gradually, providing expert advice and coaching along the way.

We're Perfect for Complete Beginners!
By 'Complete Beginner' we mean just that! Most people who start with the group are able to run for about 2-3 minutes at a time, have a walk break, then do it again. In time, we progress to running a bit more and walking less and eventually you should be able to run for 4-5 miles without stopping - usually within 3-4 months. As the group has evolved however, there is also provision for more intermediate runners or those returning to running after a break or injury. An 'Intermediate' runner might be someone who can run 3-5 miles without stopping at around 10 min/mile pace.
We operate as a 'drop in' group, so just come along when you can. There's no commitment or joining fee - just £3.00 per week - so just come when you can. There are usually around 30-40 runners, sometimes as many as 60 of all different ages and abilities. Men and women are both welcome and there is no maximum age (minimum age 17 years).
Find more about the group sessions on the Session Times page.
Sarah's Runners is a very friendly and non-competitive group, where we aim to encourage and motivate each other. We are proud of our member's achievements no matter how small. The emphasis is on participation and 'running for fitness and fun' rather than competition, although we do take part in races from time to time. It also provides a safe environment, especially for women running at night. We also have friendly coaches and assistants who will ensure you're not left on your own or get lost.
